A Numbing Sensation

My dad died last week. It was expected to happen eventually, but of course unexpected with its sad surprise. I will miss his obsession with sweet treats and baked goods; always willing to try my creations. Much of our phone conversations circled around what we’ve eaten that week and how we feel. He was generally tired, due to the advanced state of his heart condition. My reports shared about my son’s exploits, school activities and whatever we were up to that week. When we were with him, he didn’t talk much-usually observed the hustle and bustle of the crazy kids and their antics.

He had a presence, even in silence. Now its missing and I feel numb.
