The Planting has Started!

Short post today. I planted things last night! Woo! It has finally warmed up here, being in the mid 60’s low 70’s this week and 50’s at night. Feels so good. I was able to plant beets, red onion starts and peas yesterday. For the peas, I used some fence scraps to create some supports. the vertical one is for the bush peas and the arch is for the bigger peas-which is just some small hoops that I threaded into some chicken wire. I planted spinach under the hoop, so that should be shaded by the other plants and hopefully be slow to bolt. I’ll use the hoop for my cucumbers too, as the peas should be slowing down as the cucumbers start up. That’s my plan anyways!

I’ve also been hardening off my kale starts and other cold-loving plants out on the deck. I let them out in the morning and its shady until about 11:30 or so, and then I bring them on after 1-2 hours in the direct sun so they don’t get all wilty. It’s supposed to rain a bit this weekend, but I’m hoping to get at least the kale, leeks, shallots and green onions planted out at some point.
